— Pediatric Hematology and Oncology —
The Department is specialized in the treatment of children and adolescents with all hematological and solid cancers and non-malignant blood disorders.
The Department is one of the largest pediatric cancer centers in Germany and includes a large allogeneic stem cell transplantation program. It performs and participates in international treatment optimization programs and early phase clinical trials for pediatric cancers. The Department has highest quality standards and engages in all available accreditation programs.
Particular focus is the treatment of pediatric patients with acute leukemias, Non-Hodgkin lymphomas, with bone and soft tissue sarcomas, the performance of allogeneic stem cell transplantations, and the development of innovative cellular therapies.
Since optimal treatment of pediatric cancers requires highly complex and well-coordinated multimodal therapies, the care of the patients involves an extensive network of disciplines within our University Hospital. These include the Institutes of Pathology and Neuropathology, the Departments of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, the Institute of Transfusion Medicine, the Department of Radiation Therapy, the Department of Medicine/Hematology and Oncology, as well as various surgical disciplines, such as Pediatric Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery, Urology, Neurosurgery.
